Just some sketches for textiles

Just a few quick sketches for Sarah's character. I made the skirt shorter to represent Sarah during her pregnancy stage. I also drew up some designs from what I'm working on in fashion because I feel it needs some work.
I wanted to look at detail and style, but also keep it simple, which i think was quite successful, overall I am happy with these designs and hope they can help me in Friday's session.

18th century clothing

To get my head around our fashion project, i feel i really need to understand early 18th century clothing so i don't stray too far away from it looking that time period. I think we all get an idea in our mind of what we think they look like, without the research it doesnt fit the right criteria.
This image is a good example of a typical dress from that time period, ruffled sleeves, small shoulders, figure fitting.  Typical pattern shape too, which really interests me.
I think that this image is good because it not only shows the richer people, but the outfits of those with less money (because this time period was a bit too early for middle class etc)
THis video underneath shows some modern day designers interpretations of 18th century clothing, which might give me some good ideas on how to add a modern twist into my work.

I especially like vivienne west woods interpretation, it's very unique and there are areas where you really see the historical references.

Costume

A fun lesson. After some quick designing we were set to create a piece of work relating to a rakes progress made mainly from a used woolly jumper. First thing I wanted to do was try print. And I worked great! Heres the photos far.

The final outcome!

Turned out really well surprisingly I think we put our own twist on things. I enjoyed this project, it was a good way of exploring a rakes progress and seeing it in a New light. It worked well!

Attempt number 2!

A lot better if I'm honest! Its a lot darker just like we needed it to be, the charcoal smudgedcwith water had a really great effect. But still a lot of work to do on it.

Group project, interpretation of a rakes progress

This is our  first attempt at a group project on a rakes progress, as you can see, we didn't really think it through enough. We had the ideas but Didnt really compose it well enough.

Research into Pattern cutting

After starting/watching some pattern cutting within textiles/costume, i was really getting into it. Even though i'm not the neatest of people, i need to learn how to do it, because i need the option if i need to use it. I've been looking at patterns and how to draw them up, cut them and fit together. But i suppose i really need to practise it myself in order to get some real experience with it, I'm going to post some pictures of the patterns i looked at to get some ideas.

Just a couple of very simple ones i can see and understand easily, ill look at more complicated ones at a later date, i need to get my head around the simple ones first.

I tried to keep it to a mixture of designs from that time period, and tried to mix some print into my designs that were relevant.
I also have the same design but modernised-like how a celebrity of modern times would wear the same style.

Wig making

Just some experimenting in costume making wigs from the same time period as a rakes progress. I tried to make a wig for a woman in the brothel, big and messy. Still needs work, but It will get there. Here's the stage I've been through so far

General paintings etc

General paintings to help me to understand the time period around a rakes progress, and it helps me to see how hogarth's paintings were really out of the ordinary for the time period. These images also help me to see what clothing they used to wear and where they used to live.

Textiley/costume stuff at chatsworth

Just some bits and bobs of detail from dresses and fabric around chatsworth. The patterns and texture should help me progress in my costume and textiles projects because i can interpret the patterns into my own designs.
