Further experimentation

I also tried distorting images with water, i'll have an image up when i can. I didn't really like how it turned out, but it worked and that's kind of the main thing i suppose.....I think i want to continue working with the reflections rather than the distortion . But i need to give off a bigger impact with it, perhaps i need to work with scale. I need to play around and see...

Playing with reflection...

Still no pictures i'm afraid, but i'll have them on here asap. I took a further look into reflections and did a bit of playing around. I found a reflective piece of silver card around and thought i would see how i could play with reflections.  And surprisingly, the outcome was  great. Reflecting from an image onto the piece of card, it creates an image which seems to follow you around the room, it looked really 3D and worked very well. I'm gonna continue playing with manipulating images. (seems like i've really moved off drawing atm)

Yuuuppp

Although at this moment in time i don't have all my photographs with me, i was trying to find out how i could make my skull manipulations into something presentable, so i had a play around with a few things. I thought a mirror was a very good idea to do because it really fits in well with the optical illusion side to it, and feel this might be a good way forward. I'll post some pics when i find them....

Beep

This is my attempt at curving the image in an outwards direction, and to be honest, it turned out pretty well, i think it looks very 3D! The photograph doesn't really do it justice. I think i may continue with this at some point but at this moment in time i have other things to concentrate on.

Here's another go at the image manipulation, but using it in a different direction. I don't like the material i used, but i just wanted to see how it would look. (it looks pretty damn creepy..) but i like the way it turned out, it gives it a whole new perspective, though i don't feel it makes it look particularly 3D....

Moving Forward....

Looking at drawing in depth, i thought about what drawing really is, an optical illusion. Supposedly creating depth within the image that isn't really there. So i started to look at how i could manipulate images (in an opart way), making 2D drawings 3D, this really questions whether drawing has to stick to a certain criteria. First off, (after having inspiration from Matthew Monohan) i decided to adopt a very similar technique, physically bending an image to create a more 3D look, i really think it look effective.

Here are the first few pictures i have using this technique, i think i may play around with it some more. I like how you have to interact with the piece which i feel makes it very interesting

a couple more detailed monoprints

Here's a couple more monoprints, and i'm really liking how it picks up detail, it's very interesting. I do really like this technique, but feel like i need some  meaning and reasoning to use it, hopefully in the future it'll become more likely but right now i feel as if i need to step back from it.

lino print

not exactly drawing, but it was worth giving it a bash after I've done quite a bit of printing. Its interesting because it picks up the detailed texture quite well. but I can't see myself using this technique. ...worth trying tho!

testing out "drawing"

<p>a technique that suprisingly have never done before, after looking at some artists, this technique was suggested to me. Really, it looks quite effective, perhaps not in that colour. But its not really my style of work, so I won't be experimenting further, but it was worth giving it a try

Moving on with costume....

After looking at the other costume I started with a fresh face, I decided it was pretty, er, crap. We had group project in costume and I grouped up with jess to make this little number. Two mistake easier work it would seem, and our recent play around with print really helped. It looks promising at least!

Testing out monoprinting

Worked very well actually, its an interesting effect and it picks up detail suprisingly well. Gonna do some more, I like it a lot!

Just some sketches for textiles

Just a few quick sketches for Sarah's character. I made the skirt shorter to represent Sarah during her pregnancy stage. I also drew up some designs from what I'm working on in fashion because I feel it needs some work.
I wanted to look at detail and style, but also keep it simple, which i think was quite successful, overall I am happy with these designs and hope they can help me in Friday's session.

Costume

A fun lesson. After some quick designing we were set to create a piece of work relating to a rakes progress made mainly from a used woolly jumper. First thing I wanted to do was try print. And I worked great! Heres the photos far.

The final outcome!

Turned out really well surprisingly I think we put our own twist on things. I enjoyed this project, it was a good way of exploring a rakes progress and seeing it in a New light. It worked well!

Attempt number 2!

A lot better if I'm honest! Its a lot darker just like we needed it to be, the charcoal smudgedcwith water had a really great effect. But still a lot of work to do on it.

Group project, interpretation of a rakes progress

This is our  first attempt at a group project on a rakes progress, as you can see, we didn't really think it through enough. We had the ideas but Didnt really compose it well enough.

Tuesday, 2 October 2012

my initial ideas for fashion, ideas for costume from around the time of "a rakes progress"
I tried to keep it to a mixture of designs from that time period, and tried to mix some print into my designs that were relevant.
I also have the same design but modernised-like how a celebrity of modern times would wear the same style.

Wig making

Just some experimenting in costume making wigs from the same time period as a rakes progress. I tried to make a wig for a woman in the brothel, big and messy. Still needs work, but It will get there. Here's the stage I've been through so far

Just some experimentin

I like this technique, possibility for costume pattern, need to experiment with material and colour~ could be interesting!
